What goes on behind the eyes of a cat? Some people don’t wonder – they know.In hidden places, they shed their human guise, grow sleek and prowl the shadows on padded feet, combining the best aspects of cat and human. Embodying the most noble and ferocious sides of the great cats are the Bagheera – wereleopards and werepanthers.
All Bastet honor the Karoush, the Litany:
‘This is the Code our ancestors made.
This is the Law of the Moon and the Sun.
This is the Law of the Shaping of Secrets.
This is the Law of the Change.
Honor Yourself.
Honor Your Word.
Honor Your Kin and Kind.
Honor the Earth.
Honor Your Silence.’
Legend states that the bagheera came from a forbidden love between humans and cats, thus they remain close to both worlds and are called the Children of Salaam.
They are renowned for their threefold nature – when calm they are wise and inquisitive, when their passions are aroused they become aggressive and tempermental,
when angered they become a cyclone of destruction. Even the werelions tred lightly around them when angered.
There are three phases to a werepanther’s life – the akari or time of searching, the pourra or time of foundation, and the doyala or the time of passing on. They tolerate many behaviors even with their strict code of honor, but serious crimes are treated with swift and unmerciful justice. The greatest and most elder of them can call Gifts that can make them a huge killing machine, even the youngest can fell a cape buffalo with one easy swipe of their paws. They are strikingly beautiful and rarely have problems finding humans or wild cats to mate with.

Amazingly strong, fast and agile, they guard their tribal weaknesses, or yava, jealously
and such secrets are never revealed to outsiders: the bagheera sleep so deeply
during the New Moon that nothing short of violence will wake them - they will follow a trail of salt from beginning to end without stopping - by blessing a panther’s prey with a gesture for protection, one can drive the werepanther away and make it flee.

Feline born, Velvet_Sky, together with her two brothers Ebon~Slayer and Midnight~Storm, were born of two bastet bagheera parents in lands far distant to the southeast of the realm of Beware in exotic junglelands where her father was vizier to the Caliph of those lands. The family of the Caliph were of the Khan, or weretiger,
tribe of the bastet and their kinfolk - a closeknit, workable peace between the bagheera and the khan had long been forged, but all was threatened and torn away into anarchy when one of the Caliph’s sons succeeded his wiser father.
This Khan set out to exterminate the bagheera tribe from his lands and did so in an orchestrated attack with the battle lasting for three days and nights. In the end, though the bagheera tribe fought bravely, they were extinguished one by one, leaving only three survivors, Velvet_Sky and her two brothers, sent into exile from their homelands for their very lives by their mother, to save them. In the course of the desperate journey north, the two brothers were separated from their sister who ventured eventually on alone, coming solitary to the lands of Beware.

Establishing a den realm in the northern forests among Darkshadow lands, she sought to seek alliance and friendship with the Simba tribe and Garou pack she discovered there, to no avail. Taken in, however, into an adopted pack by the Winter Lord garou Silverwulfe, his mate Dahlia, and his son, Argeswulfe, she considers these three now a second family to replace the first she lost in the Caliph’s slaughter.
As a result of the Morgle War, she came across and befriended some of the returned triumphant questing party that had defeated the invasion, respecting their convictions. They built a floating platform and tower of wood on the Lake of Swords, the hope of which was to begin an alliance of those devoted to the cause of truth, light and good in the realm, and also to combat the rule of corruption by the vampire, Gareth. In support of these ideals and cause, Velvet_Sky vowed her allegiance to this group as it was formed. Soon after, in a carefully executed ambush in the northern forests, she was taken captive by Malvolio Darkshadow, tortured and left near death at the edge of the Lake of Swords, wrapped in chains of silver, pierced with hundreds of silver blades, and additional silver thrust into mouth to burn out tongue, under eyelids to burn out eyes, into eardrums to sever hearing and inside to destroy any chance of bearing young - all in a message to the Templar Knight, Arkhail, a member of the uniting forces of light. Her life saved by the female paladin, Terrwyn Sagacious, and to this day, the bagheera has no idea who attacked her or why, only that she was very fortunate to have survived. Currently, she has offered her support and skills to the armies attacking and confronting Gareth’s rule.
