Rules and Guidelines
- Post-for-post fighting is the style endorsed and supported in Urban Legends RPG. We expect this rule to be respected and followed while you are in play in our realm. This style gives those with difficulties with the keyboard an opportunity to enjoy the battles, as well as encourage creative juices to flow.
- Urban Legends RPG does not allow for outer-realm cross-overs. We have no ties to any other RPG that currently exists in SOI or that might come to exist in the future. We are a separate entity. Realm cross-overs have caused nothing but problems in the past, and we do learn from these problems. If you have the desire to bring a character over, please canvass it with The Tribunal before so doing. If the character is allowed to remain in Urban Legends RPG, it is on the distinct understanding that they will not be returning to their originating realm. Should you make the decision to want to return them to their originating realm, they will not be welcomed back in Urban Legends RPG.
Gamers may take their characters out of UL for other realms, however, characters departing for any of the other RPG realms will not be allowed to return to play in UL. They have departed our realm and you have made your decision not to play them again in UL. Please respect our rules whether you are departing for Beware, New Orleans, The City, Guilty Pleasures, or Shadowed Realm.
- Captures will (hopefully) be agreed upon by both sides in an ooc sense before they happen. Kidnappings between realms are not allowed.
- No one likes to have their character eliminated from play for an extended period of time, and thus (unless agreed upon in advance because of RT) kidnappings should not last more than 5 days. Lack of contact with your captor for more than 3 days makes it reasonable for you to have your character attempt an escape.
- Nothing is absolute. Everything is subject to change. If someone can find a way around your character’s shields/mental blocks/etc. and it is inventive and creative, play it out. What harm can come of it, other than more RP?
- This is a realm of Consent. This means that each gamer has the right to say “no, I do not want this to happen to my character” if it is something they do not feel comfortable with. Gamers must agree on things that will alter the basics of their characters – personality, alignment, allegiances, etc. People have the right to say yes or no to something happening.
- Urban Legends RPG is a No Kill Without Consent realm. This means you cannot kill a character without the express permission of his/her gamer. Please remember this in play and when developing your character.
- Powerful magic and instant-healings are generally frowned upon. While there are characters such as mutants and witches in the realm, dimension-shattering abilities and instant-healings are unrealistic, even by our standards. Godmoding is not permitted in this RPG. Many characters (known as "heros" in comics/movies) have downplayed their powers. This is to keep the realm functioning for mortal and powered characters alike. Please keep your powers realistic. If you think it's over the top, chances are it is. If you're not sure, message the Urban Legends@soi.
- Guns are allowed in play, but it is requested that people remember that a gunshot can and will be lethal. Urban Legends RPG has a No Kill Without Consent rule. Please remember that before you go to plug a shot into someone’s torso or head.
- Bombs are discouraged in play simply because they are very lethal to… just about every kind of character out there, mutant or human. Please try to keep bomb play to a minimum.
- Public sceneing, while not against the rules, is encouraged to be kept in your own rooms. A graphic that reads “No Cyber Zone” will be provided to those room owners who have public places (Harry’s, Bob’s Classic Café, the Mall, etc.) who do not wish public sceneing to take place there. Please respect this.
- Urban Legends and all its rooms and gamers are subject to the regulations of SOI as set out by seph.
- Some canon characters, in play as PCs and NPCs, have codenames (i.e.: the mutants and heros). Do not use the codenames of these PCs and NPCs. Please do not register them as your character's name unless you are playing that canon character. It is in exceedingly bad taste to do otherwise.
If you make an original character who uses the codename of an unplayed canon character, you should expect that if someone brings in that canon character that they WILL be using their canon codename. The codename comes part and parcel with the canon character. Any agreement otherwise should be reached between the individual gamers. (Passed November 6, 2004; amended February 2, 2005)
- It is the policy of URBAN LEGENDS not to involve large-scale real-life disasters in game play. For some people, these events hit too close to home. In any given disaster, we could have players whose lives have been uprooted by or who have friends or loved ones displaced or even killed. The game should be a sanctuary from the tragedy, not yet another place where we're confronted with the harsh reality.
(Added September 4, 2005)
- A minimum of information must be posted about your character within 2 days of starting that character into the realm. There is a "character sheet" provided on the cork's homepage. Please complete this. A more detailed history can be provided in time, however, the basics are required to be posted. This is not, however, required for temporary NPC characters.
(Passed on Sept. 25, 2005)
By posting into any of the rooms of our realm, you have agreed to abide by the aforementioned regulations.
