To ‘The City’

Nick's father was an eminent barrister, who became Procurator Fiscal for Aberdeenshire; regularly prosecuting criminal cases in the Scottish Court of Sessions. No one doubted that Nick would follow in father's footsteps. Shock and horror therefore, when in his second year he dropped out of University and joined the Army. This created a rift still unhealed on the premature death of his father in 1992. Nick found his metier in the army, eventually being Commissioned from the ranks in the 42nd. Highlanders - the famed Black Watch. From there he joined 22 Regiment, Special Air Service; there is (predictably) no information regarding his service with this unit. One encounter too many with The Queen's enemies left him with a permanent limp and a medical discharge from the Service. Financial independence was one effect of his father's death, and Nick returned to full-time education; gaining an Upper Second in Politics and International Affairs from Durham University. From there to the Foreign Office as a mature entrant. Being blessed with drive and ambition enough for three people, Nick went from strength to strength. Appointment as Consul to The City was announced in the autumn of 2004, and sealed with a Knighthood conferred in the New Year's Honours List. Nick revels in his reputation as a liver of the high life with a pronounced eye for the ladies...
