THE BEGINNING
Rose Vellaro was born into a typical South Jersey family. For the first ten years of her life, it was just Rose and her parents, two hard working, god fearing people who doted on their only child. If Rose wanted something, she had it. Her parents weren't rich, but thanks to her father's hard work and wise investing, they were well off. The year Rose turned ten, her mother found out she was pregant again, and along came Josh, Rose's little brother.
Everyone loved Josh, specially Rose. She would carry him around like he was her baby, caring for him sometimes more than her mother did. But as soon as Josh could walk and talk, he became mommy and daddy's favorite. Rose wasn't bitter though, because he was her favorite as well. But as more and more attention was focused on Josh instead of Rose, she began to drift from the family.
Rose had never really played with the other kids in her neighborhood, except for one girl. They were inseperable for as long as anyone could remember. Some people thought they were twins because they looked so much alike with their natural black hair, dark colored eyes and similar attitudes. When the girls hit the teen years, Rose's friend began to re-invent herself, and took Rose along for the ride. Her parents were so busy doting on Josh, they never really noticed. Not until it was too late.
It was like their precious little girl didn't exist anymore. By the time Rose was 17, she was dressing in all black, painting her face up as if she were dead, and wearing spikes and chains. Her friend, now going by the name Trinity, and she were heavily into the goth lifestyle, had been for years, but it was only now realized by her parents. They were horrified. They wanted their little girl back and they wanted her back instantly. When Rose didn't comply, they kicked her out. She left New Jersey and didn't talk to her parents again. She did however keep in touch with Trinity, and her brother Josh, without their parents knowing.
THE RECENT PAST
In the summer of 2006, Josh was diagnosed with Lukemia. Her parents were both tested for bone marrow donors, and were rejected. Other members of the family, aunts, uncles and cousins, were tested, and were rejected.
Right before Christmas, Rose found out about it from Trinity, and flew back home to Jersey to be tested. As his sibling, she was the closest match possible. But Josh was only 16 and his parents would not allow the transplant, because it was from Rose. She was livid.
Rose and the hospital board pleaded with her parents, even taking it to the court levels. The battle lasted for months. And each day they fought, Josh grew sicker and sicker. He died in February of 2007, and Rose lost it. Everyone thought Rose flew back to The City, where she'd been living for the past six months. But she didn't. She went back to her family home for the first time in close to a decade, getting into a violent arguement with her parents. When the arguement was over, Rose walked out of the house and never looked back.
Two days later Rose's parents were discovered dead in their home. It was thoroughly investigated, everyone questioned, including Rose, who was called back from The City, where everything thought she'd been the whole time. The investigation went on for nine months, with no solid evidence ever found. Rose was suspected, but nothing could be proven. The case remains open, but the investigation was closed, for the time being. Rose inherited it all, because her parents had just never gotten around to disowning her on paper.
