Returned for a Time

When occasion for joy is a time of sorrow,
And the beginning of life brings with it death,
The only hope is in despair,
Only apathy shows any care,
And only in darkness can be found any light;

Then one shall arise from the ashes
Of that which was burned with the tears of love.
Honor shall be restored,
That stolen shall be returned
For a time, before the dawn of eternal night.

Forgotton Land

Here vagueness is the key to insight,
For all that may seem right
Will stand but to be scattered amiss
Where surety leads only to uncertainess.

All that must be seen the light hides
Behind the blanket of its reflective shine;
Eternal truth is hidden in the darkest image,
And is found only after is seen death's visage.

What was forgotten is all that is known
Here, where the dungeon serves as a throne,
For he who is hunted reigns on high
Where feet tread on the sky.

Here the face of an angel
Will damn you to hell
In the land that God forgot
What you've lost will be all you've got.

Child of Night

Child of the darkness,
Child of the night,
What do you see
By the pale moonlight?

What weighs down your heart
Beyond your young years?
What causes your sorrows,
Gives rise to your tears?

Why do you trust no one?
Why are your eyes glazed with fear
And always looking over your shoulder
When you stand before a mirror?

Then she lifted her eyes
Filled with suffering, and said,
"I have seen the future,
And it is dead."

Army Above

"Mommy, mommy, come see!" the little girl cried,
"There's an army in the sky high above.
They have swords and bows
To vanquish their foes.
They're making ready for battle,
Drawing plans in the clouds above."

She told everyone she saw whether stranger or friend
About the army in the sky above;
But they just laughed
After she passed,
For who could believe the little girl's tale
Of an army waiting high above?

"They're coming!" she cried,
"Can't you see them above?
They're sounding their battle cry;
Soon all of you will die!
You must make peace with them if you value your lives,
Or they'll be taken by the army above."

Then the eyes of the world were unveiled,
And they saw the army descending from above.
There was no way to flee,
Save down on one knee;
Pleading with the girl who so long ago
Saw the army waiting in the sky high above.

Your... Saviour?

You say that I can read one's intentions by looking in his eyes.
You say that I can see a man's destiny even before he is given life.
You say I know the thoughts of the world and the movements of all that breathe.
You say I command all of nature, and it comes before me on its knees.
You say I have many forms;
You say I have many homes.
You say that I am an angel; you say I am Satan's spawn;
You say that I am evil incarnate; you say I am the child of God.

I've been long before time began and will still be after it's ended.
I've parted ways with he who fought by my side and he whom I once defended.
I've befriended those with potential and raised them to heights beyond belief.
I've wept for the plight of nature-- what lies ahead of it is so bleak.
I've taught men the reason for living, but they forsook it for wealth and power.
I've struck terror into the hearts of men just to watch them cower.
I've bought entire nations for the price of a single man.
I've enslaved the holy as easily as I have the damned.

I've kissed the lips of he who desired to send me to my doom.
I've heard speeches that could have reformed the world if anyone else had been in the room.
I've read the future of an entire race in the eyes of a newborn baby.
I've mourned the untimely losses of those who faithfully served me.
I've led millions to their deaths in faithless holy wars.
I've reigned over the kings of the world's greatest powers.
I've begotten the sons that will both save and condemn the world.
I've visited places mortal eyes have not beheld.
I've preserved for the ages the secrets of yesterday.
I've cost so many men so much more than they wanted to pay.
I've gained the faith of the faithless.
I've lost more than you know exists.

I've played with men's minds until their screams brought down the sky.
I've raised up the lowly and have given them wings to fly.
I've fed the flames of passion in the numberless hours of night.
I've killed those who trusted in me just to make a point.
I've won the battles that changed the course of history.
I've left the doubtful pleading on his knees.
I've caught all that dared to step within the reaches of my deadly aim.
I've penned the words that set the world aflame.
I've captured the heart of he who had not one to give.
I've loved he who I could not have.
I've cursed the damned to suffer an eternity through undying flame.
I've blessed those who serve me while still they curse my name.
I've learned the deepest secrets of nature and the darkest secrets of man.
I've given away the control of an era just to gain one man.
I've foretold the destinies of all that are endowed with life.
I've authored the letters that are the foundations of great strife.
I've flown with the eagle and have hunted he who hunted it.
I've risen from the ranks of death the leaders the world can't forget.
I've bled mankind's most beloved leaders until they could no longer stand to live.
I've accepted without thanks the offerings of those who gave me all they had to give.

I've birthed tomorrow's assassins next to the ones to be shot down.
I've seen the most glorious kingdoms disappear, never again to be found.
I've enraptured the very souls of the faithful and faithless alike.
I've taken solace and comfort in the cold embrace of the night.
I've accomplished all that man has wished for, yet not half of what nature dreams.
I've shown them what hides behind the curtain, for all is rarely as is seems.
I've employed the spirits of nature; they will serve he who gives them what they desire.
I've forsaken those who thought they were my friends until I sent them screaming into the fire.
I've submitted to the will of none.
I've forgotten those who would not come.

I've sought that which would help me to release the wrongly enslaved land.
I've controlled the mighty with only the caress of my hand.
I've returned to the earth that which to it rightfully belongs.
I've done more than my fair share of correcting man's past wrongs.
I've kept watch over the affairs of man, seeking out those whom I could use.
I've promised nothing but acknowledgment, yet my bidding they do not refuse.
I've pardoned the sins of the many, yet remembered the sin of the one.
I've longed to escape my appointed role, but I cannot until I am done.
I've subdued the mighty forces of the earth and have bent them to my will.
I've turned my back on he whom I most respected though I pay homage to him still.
I've lived as none have before.
I've hinted at what lies in store.
I've trusted nothing but have faith in all; one must simply know in what to believe.
I've wondered often about how man can be so easy to deceive.
I've pursued that which I wanted with a vengeance few can know.
I've sent due warning of what is coming to those who live below.

Do you still say I am your savior?
Do you still say I condemn all?
Do you still say that I will save you?
Do you still say that I will fall?
Look into my eyes, for only then will you see who I am,
And whether I have the soul that saves
Or the soul that can only damn.
Look into my eyes and tell me what you see;
Look into my eyes if you dare to see the real me.
Am I the lion, or am I the lamb?
Until you look you can only guess.
The eyes are the window into one's very soul,
But whose soul will you find behind the glass?
