Born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1975, Maryke Vorster spent the first twelve years of her life on her family’s horse ranch outside Pretoria. An Afrikaner by birth, Maryke’s parents were targeted by an ANC splinter faction during Apartheid and killed before her eyes. Traumatized by the experience, she nonetheless proved incredibly resilient and was able to make her way to civilization to report the murder of her mother and father.

Still a minor, Maryke’s closest family was her uncle – an official in the US State Department living in Alexandria, Virginia. After emigrating, Maryke was adopted by her uncle with whom she spent barely a year before being sent to boarding school in Massachusetts. Attending Phillips Academy Andover, Maryke proved herself to be a highly intelligent and incredibly versatile student. She excelled at chemistry as well as demonstrated her skill as a swimmer on the academy’s varsity team. Receiving a scholarship to Harvard University she double majored in Chemistry and Civil Engineering. While attending UC Berkley for her Masters in Chemistry, Maryke was offered an internship at the Central Intelligence Agency. A natural within the work environment due to her education and background, Maryke was attracted to the lifestyle and became officially recruited into the Clandestine Service following her graduation.

For seven years Maryke worked for the agency, earning a variety of contacts and skills along the way. Primarily trained as a demolitions expert, Maryke advised on the construction of bomb proof buildings as well as the improvised creation of various chemical explosives. Stationed mainly in Washington, Maryke was re-assigned to Brazil to aid in the construction of bomb proof barriers for the American embassy in 2007. In 2008, Maryke became involved as part of a clandestine counter-terrorism project involving the funneling of tagged small arms and explosives to a variety of guerilla organizations and drug cartels spread throughout South America. During this time she also earned her pilot’s license and worked as a storage consultant on board the transport flights for the special projects division.

In 2009, following the success of the project, Maryke ‘officially’ left the agency to join her friend and develop a private air-charter service in the United States. Relocating to the City in 2010, she works as a co-owner and operator of City Skyways along with her long time associate William Colby.
