Mama Juba is a middle aged woman, somewhat heavyset, who is married, most think, to Mr. Edgar. She and Mr. Edger have several children" Donny, Eukala (deceased), Rheba, Joshua, Peter, Doreen, Franklin, and Maureen.
Mama Juba is a blues singer who was born and raised in Louisiana. She and Mr. Edgar opened a blues club originally down there, but moved north several years ago. There is a rumor they were forced to move. Mama Juba is also an excellent cook. So Flat Foot Suzie's focuses on music, food, and sex.....as well as voodoo.
Rumor regarding Mama Juba has it that she's a "mambo", a vodun or "voodoo" priestess, and that in fact, "Mama Juba" is a corruption of "Mambo Juba". But it's unwise to ask her directly. She is loud, good-natured, talkative, and friendly.....but she doesn't miss much and she has no truck with shit or shit purveyors. It's said she keeps an ear to the ground as far as what's happening in the area, but that doesn't mean she'll tell anyone asking...especially for free. She may share a part of what she knows, she may not.....but if anyone tries to push when she says "No", they may find themselves staring down the twin barrels of a shotgun.
When Mama Juba isn't at the bar at Flat Foot Suzie's, Mr. Edgar usually is there. He is as taciturn as Mama is talkative....but he is just as familiar with how to use a shotgun.
There have been rumors linking Flat Foot Suzie's with the skin trade....and they are true. In fact, Mama and Mr. Edgar run prostitution and, to an extent, white slavery. Flat Foot Susie's generally has a number of prostitutes who work out of Flat Foot Suzie's, but sometimes strolling on Michigan Avenue and even, Lower Stewart. Most appear to work for Snakeskin Charlie....at least, that's the common rumor. But in fact, Mama and Mr. Edgar run everything.
Mama doesn't have dealings with hard drugs although folks are free to smoke dope in her club and she supplies marijuana though none is in her club. She is also an excellent source of information, though she doesn't just hand it out.
Mama is not too fussy at what people do in the dimness of the club so long as they don't interfere with the music. It is not unusual for a hooker to slip under one of the forest of tables between the bar and the stage to give oral pleasure to a john or to her pimp. In fact, sometimes pimps of other whores not owned by Mama Juba like to show off by making their whores suck off several people in a row just because he tells her to do it. She sometimes turns tricks here and is a regular singer at Flat Foot Suzie's. But she is apparently more a friend of Mama Juba than someone who works for or is owned by her.
