History: A foundling, Hope was adopted by a middle-class, English, muggle family before she was two. Her father, Nigel, is a math teacher, her mother, Helen, a librarian and they formed a tight, loving family. Time will tell what biological parents were left behind. When the owl showed up one night with a letter from Hogwarts she was as surprised as her parents, though later she learned that someone had signed her up for the school when she was an infant - no one has as yet admitted to doing so. Much discussion ensued. At the end of it, she enrolled at Hogwarts. She did well at the school, finishing out the full seven years toward the top of her class and going straight onto University. She graduated with honors with a double major in Muggle Studies and Potions and a minor in Transfiguration. Not yet ready to face the real world, as it were, she dived straight into graduate work.

And found herself bored. Sitting in the library researching her dissertation, she would look out the window and wonder. Finally, she applied for and was granted an extended leave of absence. With no real destination in mind, she spun a globe and picked a country at random - Cambodia. With nothing but a rucksack full of clothes, some money and the best wishes of her friends and family, she apparated herself to what had been only a spot on the map. She worked her way across Asia, living mostly among muggles with the occassional foray into the Asian wizarding world.

Five years later, a combination of homesickness and an odd series of near deadly accidents convinced her to return to Hogwarts and finish her degree. She has little coursework left, just her dissertation which she intends to base on her travels - a comparative study of muggles and their reactions to the magic world around them, specifically dragon tales. Who knows what adventures she'll find at Hogwarts while she's at it.

Personality: Strong, confident, adventurous, independent, with little vanity. Warm, friendly and open to all, her parents called her their little ray of sunshine. She's slow to anger, but does have a temper when pushed, particularly in defense of friends and when confronted by the injustices of this world. Despite her years of travel, she still has a certain air of innocence - she's seen tragedy, experienced danger, and personally saw the aftermath of genocide in Cambodia. Still, she has an innate optimism and belief in humanity that is difficult to shake. After five years of traveling on her own, learning her own strengths and weaknesses, she's become extremely self-sufficient and independent. In general, sex and men are not high on her list of priorities, though she'd never close herself off to new experiences, as her first few weeks back at Hogwarts have shown.

All that sex stuff (N.B.: Hope hasn't thought of herself as a sexual being in a very long time - 5 years of backpacking through strange lands will do that to you when you're not prone to sample local delicacies, in a manner of speaking - and in many ways is just not tuned into the whole man-woman vibe thing. Thus, the currently sketchy answers to this.)
