Have them spend the summers together on an Uncle’s ranch. It turned out that Dad taught her to be the tough one. But that was all right, he turned out to be good with a rifle.

Have him become a cop to try to make Dad at least notice him. It didn’t work well, Dad had his favorite, but becoming a sniper was the best job ever. It kept him at a comfortable distance from things.

Until that bystander ran out just as he squeezed the trigger.

Turned out his sister was looking for a partner, about the time he got demoted. Granted they never told the department that they were brother and sister. Nor do they plan to tell the new department.

And they’re not telling them what happened in the woods either. That is staying strictly in the family.

Note 1 – He is currently wearing a spell which masks his scent and any magical sense in order to hide his species. Not that it would be all that hard to sort it. Hit my mailroom, I’m easy.

Note 2 – He and his sister both hide what they are from the general public, so as to keep their jobs. Both as siblings and as shifters

Note 3 - They have worked hard with both spells and behavior modifications to be able to be near each other for most of the time.
