Training a new Filly!

As any seasoned rider will tell you, training a new filly requires a great deal of time and a lot of patience. Here are a few essential tips to help you get the most out of the experience.

If you intend to ride her often, it is essential she enjoys the experience too. . . . so make sure you warm her up well before you mount her.

Top Tip No1: A well oiled filly is a happy filly!

For the ultimate ride experience your new filly should always be mounted bare back, though she'll probably appreciate being saddled up if you take her riding with your friends!

Once on top whisper a few words of encouragement and then gently ease her into her natural gait until you find the desired tempo. Now keep control and of course. . . enjoy the ride! :)

To help you get to grips with my methodology I have provided a very short demo clip which I hope will help. . . As you can see it's early days for this young filly . . but the signs are very encouraging. Halter training is going rather well and she's learning to keep her head up for the jumps!. . the punters will certainly appreciate that!

Frequent slaps on the rump serve to remind your new filly who is in charge, and keep her focused on the job at hand. In extreme cases I recommend the use of the whip.

Top Tip No2: A good rhythm is essential if you want her to take you to the finishing line.

. . . and finally. Once dismounted make sure you reward her with a tasty treat of essential vitamins!
