BLACKCLOAK
BLACKCLOAK is a 6' tall ,lean of build, 350 yr old human man.He has long blonde hair and eyes that glow red when angered or when he is is the throws of his madness. Thelan's parentless youth was a union between a witch whore and a gaurd.They were both later killed by a Dragon attack on the city of Zhentil Keep.His younger days were spent in poverty in the keep's outlying province stealing what he needed,sneaking about,and spying on his betters.One day a botched attempted theft in a wizards tower left him captured and later under the tutalage of a relentless and cruel master named Azgalaster . From him he learned the fundamentals of wizardry and how to inflict suffering on others. Eventually, old age convinced his Master to complete the ritual of turning himself into a Lich.BLACKCLOAK was then subjected to terrible magic experiments and Psychic Surgery which although left his mind on body brokken, they made his ability to master magic formidably enhanced as well as giving him Psionic Powers. He slowly recovered and then grew in power.
One day a party of adventurers hearing tales of great magic items in the Zhentarish tower finally came to slay his master and he for all of the Magic items in the tower. A titantic running magic battle ensued between Azgalaster, Thelun and a Phaerimm named Shinnirack and the Good aligned adventurers. It lasted for 2 days and the battle spells and monsters summoned left the tower smashed and ruined.Thelun and a few member of the enemy Adventuring band were the only survivors.He eventually hunted them down and killed them one by one, always in a Black Cloak to signify the loss of his master. His later years were spent wandering homeless far and wide and he was so named BLACKCLOAK .He worked for Mercenary companies,The Iron Throne,and later learned about Demonology,Dragons and Lichdom in the fabled Cult Of the Dragon. He later studied under a cabal of mages ,appropriately called the BlackCloaks, in the fabled City of Waterdeep. Strife and chaos were his meat and drink for many long years as he strove to reclaim his sanity and master Arch Magic.He even traveled to Skull Port in UnderMountain and met Halaster. A guild war and a few run ins with Khelbun Arunsun BlackStaff later forced him to flee to Arabel in Cormyr and later found the tavern called The World Serpant Inn that holds a portal to Sigil , City of Doors. In Sigil he was at last shown the secrets to controling and dealing with Demons,Devils, and Deamons from the DoomGuard Faction ( also known to him as Tanar'ri,Baatezu,and Yugoloths respectively) as well as learning much Lore about the Outer Planes.
He has traveled to the The Abyss and Baator several times in service of the Blood War and witnessed such horrid atrocities it further damaged his phyche. He also lanned the dark of some ancient secrets that gave him deadly powers .He has wandered the planes for many years and amoung his victories include a Dracolich, A Balrog, a phaerimm, a Tarrasque and A dreaded Pit Fiend .He was finally captured by a large group of Tanar'ri and forced to fight in the front lines of the BloodWar and was years later commisioned as a General in the BloodWar under command of the Mighty DemonLord known as Orcus.(Of those years he is most tight lipped of all his travels)
He has now taken up residence in a then newly erected Keep called Death KeepDEATHKEEP.A large castle sprung up over night by a Dark ArchMagi. Moans of prisoners and roars of exotic beasts and guardians fill the air surounding this place.Vultures fly high over the castle and heads sit atop spikes all along the walls. The building is a huge multi-story castle complete with many rooms, mazes, and secret passages.The passages are patroled by Orcs, Trolls, Beholders, IronGolems, Undead, Drow, GiantSpiders and Demons.This castle contains the MastersChambers, The kitchen, The Dungeon , PrisonCells, The Lab, The Labyrinth , The Library and countless other rooms and Portals. Guards and Wards and dangerous magic traps are laid everywhere to slay slaves and intruders who poke about where they shouldn't.Here he performs experiments on monsters and is constantly restocking his Labyrinth of Death with strange and terrible beasts. Tanar'ri can be seen flying about its soaring butresses and towers.Ogres,trolls, Orcs, Drow, Golems, Powerful Undead and worse patrol the grounds and forest killing any and all intruders.
BLACKCLOAK is a dangerous man and very paranoid. He wears his ROBE OF THE ARCHMAGI and carries a STAFF OF THE ARCHMAGI at all times.He also wears Bracers of Defense,Rings of Power and Wizardry. He is always adorned in protective magics and amulets, amoung which is a fabled Greenstone Amulet from Myth Drannor. This item protects him from almost any and all magic assaults or attempts at control upon his mind from spells or magic devices.He also carries many wands of destructive power tucked into the folds of his robes. He fears death so he has therefore casted many magical contingencies upon his person. Amoung such contingencies are his AutoTeleport should he be gravely wounded.There is also a Similacrum of himself in Temporal Stasis in case his body is destroyed. He has since twice now used such a method to escape permanent death. His phyche and soul are also under protection and should either be separated from him it will Magic Jar into the Astral Plane and then into the Similacrum and cause his old body to detonate in a huge magical blast that would bring a castle down.He probably is almost impossible to kill and usually even goes so far as to cast Projected Image using Unseen Servants to add realism to the illusion leaving his body elsewhere but still able to cast spells from the image and also allowing him to be two places at once. The only way to kill him is to destroy his hidden similacrum in the deepest reaches of Death Keep's The Labyrinth or travel to Thanatos via The Abyss where one would have to confront Orcus, who on his own plane is ten times more powerful than BLACKCLOAK, and after defeating him. Destroy a Phylactery containing BlackCloaks soul.(((Both of these adventures would have to be DM'ed by me in an AD&D style play)))
He has a weakness for slave girls and is always looking for one to live in his castle under strict rules for fear of grave punishment in exchange for an apprenticeship under him. He used to be married to Forbidden~Rose an unholy matrimony under Hela Death Goddess and his own Lord, Orcus. She was fanatically Loyal to her Master and teacher. She was apprenticed almost a year and a half ago and then became his wife. She has much potential as a Sorceress. She has also given birth to a daughter with magic already strong in her veins. Her name is Alatharis Lej' BLACKCLOAK.
He usually will not strike first so is harmless unless provoked. If he is provoked then one can expect a terrible magic assault and if he is unsuccessful at that he will teleport away to return with reinforcements or that person can expect to be harassed by deadly monsters every time they show their face in the realm. He never forgets an affrontary and will scheme for months biding his time until he gets the right chance to strike. He was Commisioned by his Lord Orcus as a Dark lord. A special title among his Lord's elite forces. Most recently he went to the Vault of the Drow in Oerth to confront forces of good working against his Master. He learned much of the ways of the Drow and even their language. He came home to find his Wife had run off with Warlord and he then hunted them both. He then got sick from the Plague and nearly made a transformation to Lichdom to escape death until yvette@bwr found a Dark Priest to perform a ritual and he was cured. All the while he hunted his wife Black~Rose and used Bounty Hunters, Assasins, and Minions to flush her out of hiding. He finally tricked her by setting an incredibly complex set of magic spells which lured her into Death Keep deadly where she was ultimately faced with a deadly magic trap that slew her dead. She was later reincarnated and they have since become friends again. He once attacked Castle Beware and nearly destroyed it with a massive hoard of goblins, Giants and a few Dragons. He was almost partly responsible for a massive Demonic Invasion that nearly took place and would have surely destroyed most of beware. The invasion was later called off and now he bides his time as an evil recluse.BLACKCLOAK The Dark Lord.
