Back Story
Despite his name, Alan Gonzalez was raised in England, his paternal grandparents having fled Madrid after Franco won the civil war. He grew up in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, experiencing the life of the genteel English countryside with a hint of more exotic tastes from his international herigate.
Just a few weeks before graduating from the University of Lancaster, he went hiking with his girlfriend and best mate through some of the most rugged areas of the Cumbrian hill country. Despite being experienced leaders of the Orienteering Club, they wandered much too far off the beaten track, crossing from the national park deep into privately held lands. Realizing their mistake too late in the day, they decided to camp deep in the private reserve for the night and make their way out the next day.
For Alan's friends, the next day would never come. Driven by the hunger and power of a full moon, a relatively new werewolf ended their lives and had just begun to maul Alan before an Alpha drove the pup away. When he eventually woke in a strange bed, the pain in his leg confirmed that his memories of the attack were not a terrible dream, but a horrific reality. When his hosts indicated it was likely he was infected with lycanthropy, he didn't believe them. Until, of course, his first shift...
He had never been a very aggressive person in any case, but the experience of seeing his girlfriend and closest mate murdered left a terrible toll on his psyche. Living (and hunting) so close to the site of the horrendous event was a continuous reminder of his loss, something that seemed to keep him from fully recovering from the blow. After consulting with some of the pack leadership, he decided a change of scenery would be good for him.
Owed a favor by the Ulfric of the Black Pool pack, the Geri of the Cumbrian pack took Alan across the Irish Sea and helped him settle near Dublin. The Irish Ulfric begrudgingly agreed to accept the young, weak lyncathrope. In releasing Seamus from his favor, the Geri made him promise to make sure Alan was safe.
Despite the promise, the Black Pool pack wasn't a pleasant place for a young, non-aggressive were, so Alan spent most of his time in Dublin. As he farily quickly developed adept control over his shifting as well as his disdain for Seamus' attitude, he avoided the pack as much as possible.
His heart was still heavy, still smarting form his loss, so much so he drove his energy into work. It started with a friend from Univeristy, now working for a big firm in London, hiring him to provide freelance IT consulting. As he settled into Dublin, he expanded on this contract work, and hired someone to cover for him during his ?full moon? vacations. He eventually became the agent for his friend?s company, contracting IT support from the highly educated but reasonbly priced Dublin workforce. He took advantage of the friends he made at university (and the school's excellent alumni chat site) to both hire consultants and find them clients around the world. Within 2 years he had formed a limited partnership with friends based in Mumbai, London, Atlanta, Hong Kong. Three years later, the five of them sold their firm to a Brussel-based firm for a cool 10 million euros. At 26 years old, he had enough funds to fully convert his Dublin warehouse into a safe house, and retire comfortably to be a well-paid consultant.
He had kept out of pack politics as much as possible, not worrying too much about his position in the hierarchy. Many times he backed down from challenges he may have been able to win. (In fact, the only time he generally rose to face a dominance challenge was to protect a weaker member.) He only returned to the Black Pool pack house only on full moons. Eventually, those trips became less frequent as well, as he began spending some of his full moons back at the lodge in Cumbria. In many ways, he was a member of the pack in name only. It was probably a situation the Ulfric would never have tolerated, only allowing it because of the promise he had made to the Geri from Cumbria.
When he sold his business, he had hope to make his warehouse safe enough, secure enough, to be a safe haven for the most abused omegas in the pack. Between his monetary and physical resources, perhaps he could find ways to protect them.
